Brothers,
Wow, what a busy time of
year we've come to. The District and Chapter Basketball Free-throw has
just finished, and I'd like to thank Bob Beers, everyone who helped, and
especially the kids for making it such a good event. The Poster and
Essay contests are in full swing, so make sure you get your council's
winning entries to the chapter our judges.
Supreme has a new
program, Food for Families. They are providing $1,000,000 in grants for
each state jurisdiction that has 25% of their councils participate in
food drives or work to provide free hot meals for the hungry between
July and February. To qualify, the councils must complete and submit to
Supreme the form included in this month's Shield. I really want to thank
Councils 3474, 6865, 8133, and 8265, who have already submitted their
forms. Everyone else, if you have participated in any of these programs,
please complete the form and send it to:
Knights of Columbus
Attn: Robert Ennis, 12th Floor
1 Columbus Plaza
New Haven, CT 06510
or robert.ennis@kofc.org
Also, please send a copy
to Mike Seixas, Chapter Food for Families Chairman and Council 3474 GK.
The deadline is March 1, so time is getting critical. As an added bonus,
any council that participates in the program gets credit for all four
community activities events on the Columbian Award application.
We are planning a third
degree exemplification for June 19, 2010, at St. Lawrence the Martyr
Parish. It's not too early to begin preparing your members who need to
complete the third degree for this exemplification.
Fraternally,
John V. Pozniak,
San Jose Chapter
President
