District Deputy #27 March, 2011 Message

Tim Crews

Time is flying by, so we must be having fun!

Congratulations to Council 5796. Their patience and persistence has paid off and the Supreme Board of Directors did approve their resolution to change the Council name from St. Peter the Apostle to St. John’s. This is a wonderful milestone, and we hope to see your new name often as we continue to report on your accomplishments.

I am indeed having a lot of fun attending Council meetings, First Degrees and Chapter Meetings. Which reminds, please ensure that your Council is represented at every Chapter meeting. Each of the District 27 Councils submitted names of delegates and alternates to the Chapter at the beginning of the Columbian Year. Each Counsel has 3 votes in the Chapter, and can have three delegates in attendance. It is important to exercise the votes when issues arise that need to be voted. Do not abdicate your Counsel’s votes, attend and be counted! If you are one of the named delegate, you have an obligation to fulfill your commitment. While we are a volunteer organization, we expect our volunteers to be loyal and true to their jobs with the Order. If you a delegate and cannot make a meeting, there are alternates whom you can notify and ask them to be there in your stead.

Besides any votes at the business meeting, each Council Grand Knight presents a monthly report of the Council activities. This is a short report, and the forms to be filled out are available from the Chapter website. The GK should fill this out at least a day in advance of the business meeting and should e-mail it to the Chapter Secretary. If an alternate is attending in place of the GK, e-mail it to him as well. If you do deliver the report by e-mail, you can forego handing it in at the meeting since the Secretary already has it.

Also, if your Council will be absent from a Chapter meeting, please contact me. I will be glad to make a report if your Council absence is unavoidable. And, you will receive an excused absence rather than being marked among the missing.

There is a lot of information that is disseminated tat Chapter meetings. At this time of the year some of the Supreme and State programs are rapping up in preparation for the State Convention. Lots of information is also being spread about the convention so it behooves you to have someone there to get the information and bring it back to the Council.

Besides attending the business meeting, there is always a dinner and lots of opportunity for fraternity, camaraderie and fellowship with brother Knights. Dinners are $10 and many Councils allow this as a reimbursable expense for the appointed delegates (that is those listed on the delegate form to the Chapter). Take advantage fo this and support the work of the Knights in the San Jose Diocese by being an active participant in Chapter meetings.

Vivat Jesus!,
